Pet Tags
I've been answering the question "what information should I have on my dog's ID" for 30 years. My thought is if I encounter a dog that appears lost, I need a phone number to contact its owner. If I want to keep the dog, knowing its name is helpful. More recently the idea of two phone numbers - home and cell - seems to make sense. Ring or "S" hook for attachment? If the "S" hook is closed well with pliers, it is the strongest. The ring can be separated with a small screwdriver or metal nail file for attaching and being continuous it is very secure. One caution: when attaching a lead to a collar be sure to connect to the heavy ring and not the ID tag ring.

Pet ID Brass Collar Tags (Collar Plates) This shows the 3 different sizes of the Pet ID Brass Collar Tags - Top: Large, Middle: Small, Bottom: MediumI choose to call the flat rivet-on style IDs "collar tags" or "collar plates" to differentiate them from the hanging type. They come with rivets for mounting. A hammer is needed to set the rivet. For do-it-your-selfers, the toughest part usually is putting a hole in the leather or nylon. Some customers send me the collar so I can mount the tag. Others have me send the tag to the leather maker for them to mount the tag. Once mounted there is nothing to jingle or catch on something.
